Hillsboro Beach is a town of only 2,000 residents in Broward County. From the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway, the width of the island is only 900 feet. The Earl of Hillsboro was granted the land by the English Crown during Florida's short period of English possession.
The beach is soft white silica sand, and the reefs teem with lobsters and tropical fish. Beyond the reefs, the Gulf Stream current is home to Marlin, Sailfish and Dolphin.
The "Millionaires Mile" or "Hillsboro Mile" of mansions begin north of the very private Hillsboro Club and extends north for 3.2 miles along AIA. The estates extend from the beach, across AIA to the Intracoastal Waterway. Here, one can own a home directly on the ocean and a dock on the deep waters of the Intracoastal Waterway. With the exception of Manalapan, Hillsboro Beach is the only area in Southeast Florida that offers ocean to waterway properties.
To find the famous "Millionaires Mile", simply locate the Hillsboro Lighthouse. It is the brightest light on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, marking the Hillsboro Inlet and the northernmost point of the Florida Reef.
