Flying cars, vehicles of our imagination and science fiction are rapidly approaching the world of reality. In preparation for aerial commuting, the luxury real estate developers behind the 60-story ultra-luxury tower Paramount Miami Worldcenter, is making sure that future owners of these space-age vehicles have a place to land. Developer Dan Kodsi is preparing for the future by outfitting the top of the building with the first residential skyport in Miami-Dade County. “Paramount Miami Worldcenter is excited to be at the forefront of urban aviation with what can one day be the first residential skyport in Miami,” says Kodsi.
The roof of Paramount Miami Worldcenter is being encased entirely in glass. Upon completion, it will serve as an observation deck for residents. When the flying-car future arrives, the rooftop will be outfitted with a landing pad, and the observation deck will become a sky lobby for coming and going aerial commuters.
Flying cars, now referred to as urban air taxis, are not a work of fiction anymore. The aviation and transportation industries view these vehicles as a potential cure to traffic congestion and a catalyst to quicker, daily commutes on the ground. “The future of transportation is here within the next 10 to 15 years and urban aviation is closer to reality than you might expect,” says Kodsi. “These vehicles are more like a helicopter, but much quieter, run electronically and are environmentally friendly.”
Kodsi says he was inspired by Uber’s Elevate project. Elevate recently inked a deal with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to start testing air taxis in urban cities such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Dubai as soon as 2020. Mr Kodsi also expects flying cars to reach Miami in the next 10 to 15 years. Paramount Miami Worldcenter will be completed much sooner; spring of 2019.
