Beach Restoration will Increase Condo Prices

December 3, 2012

Governor Rick Scott recently asked the federal government for $67.2 million to repair beaches, piers and other public property damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The Army Corps of Engineers may contribute additional beach aid to help repair the beaches, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Hurricane Sandy was a devastating storm in many ways to areas along the East Coast, including Palm Beach. The damage to the beaches along the Palm Beach coast varied. Most of the damage took place in the Northern part of Palm Beach where there isn’t any protection from the Bahamas.

Some of our most beautiful beaches and luxury oceanfront condominiums are located in this part of the state. A few of the most luxurious buildings in the Palm Beach are  Luxuria, One Thousand Ocean, Bellaria, One Watermark Place, Dolcevita and The Ritz-Carlton Residences. The beaches are one of the main attractions to buyers and vacation home owners in South Florida.

Dan Bates, the Palm Beach County deputy director of Environmental Resources Management said “There was damage up and down the coastline” and he estimated the total cost at $20 million.

Palm Beach County expedited two planned beach restoration projects. Sand from a mine in St. Lucie County has already been sent down to shore up beaches on Singer Island and Coral Cove Park.

The beaches will be brought back to their original beauty through the restoration projects, which will also increase the value of luxury oceanfront condominiums and luxury oceanfront estates in this area.

One of the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Sandy was Delray Beach. Luckily, the city already had a $9.2 million restoration planned for the beaches in February of 2013.

Paul Dorling, Delray Beach’s planning and zoning director, said the actual damage to the beach from the storm isn’t clear yet, since a lot of the sand remains just offshore and will likely wash back.

This is a good time to buy a luxury oceanfront condominium or oceanfront estate in Palm Beach. Not only will the value of your home go up because the housing market has improved, but the beach restoration projects will surely increase the value of your property as well.
