530 Tons of Limestone Used to Make Artificial Reef in Boca Raton

For hours beachgoers watched as 530 tons of limestone rock was dropped creating an artificial reef just north of 1000 Ocean and the Boca Raton Inlet. Piece by piece, a bulldozer atop a barge dropped the massive limestone boulders into the ocean, sinking them 35 feet to form two 15-foot piles underwater.

A New City is Being Proposed Between Aventura and North Miami Beach.

A special election is being held this November to decide if a section of Northeast Miami-Dade could become its own city. If residents vote in favor, the section of land between Aventura and North Miami Beach would be authorized to exit from the county's municipal services and taxing structure. Miami-Dade commissioners approved the special election on Tuesday, allowing the 20,000 residents of Highland Lakes, Skylake and the previously incorporated Ojus, a say in the outcome.

City Officials Approve Funding for Miami Restoration after Hurricane Irma

The Miami City Commission just approved a resolution authorizing the city of Miami to accept $34+ million in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and an additional $9+ million from an insurance payout. The funds will go towards cleaning up areas such as Watson Island where there is a large waterfront parking lot full of abandoned, yachts destroyed by the storm.

Called the North Beach Yard, Miami Beach commissioners approved a five-year lease with the city to turn a lot at 81st Street and Collins Avenue into a trendy outdoor gathering space for the public. Wynwood Yard founder Della Heiman and her business partner Ken Lyon have been working on the plans that would include food trucks, small retail businesses, a bar, a performance stage for live entertainment and daytime programming, a pavilion and a renovated city-owned building that will serve as a community center.

Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils New Futuristic Terminal Designs at PortMiami

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. just released renderings of the futuristic new design for its dedicated Norwegian Cruise Line terminal at PortMiami. Inspired by the nautilus, thespiraled, multi-level facade is expected to be ready for vacationers traveling on Norwegian Cruise Line in the fall of 2019. The Miami-based design firm, Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. came up with the concept for the project and construction is expected to start this May.

Miami Dade County Approves Development of $100M Drivers Club Project

According to a press release, Miami-Dade County commissioners have approved a proposal by Carlos de Narvaez to turn county-owned land into a "country club for cars". The South American developer is calling his $100 million luxury project, Drivers Club Miami. The Club is set to rise on a 160 acre site just west of Miami Gardens on 20000 Northwest 47th Avenue.

The Miami International Boat Sails Back into South Florida
