Luxury real estate prices are going up across South Florida but there are a few deals left among some of the most prestigious properties. In the height of the real estate boom in 2007 the historic Casa Alva estate, originally owned by the Vanderbilt family was put on the market for twenty three million. It didn’t sell.

Governor Rick Scott recently asked the federal government for $67.2 million to repair beaches, piers and other public property damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The Army Corps of Engineers may contribute additional beach aid to help repair the beaches, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

We have seen our share of hurricanes and tropical storms over the years, and they have wreaked havoc over our beautiful beaches. Hurricane Sandy was the last storm to pass through South Florida, and caused quite a bit of beach erosion.

Things are looking better all the time for luxury waterfront buyers and sellers. A year ago it was almost impossible to get a loan for a million dollar property, but things have changed.

Once again we are seeing buyers from South America purchasing luxury waterfront estates in Miami. Buyers from Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil with available cash and looking for third and fourth homes have purchased much of Miami’s luxury inventory bringing prices up significantly.

We are close to the end of 2012, and we have seen some of the highest prices ever paid for luxury oceanfront condominiums in Miami, at least in recent years.
